State Office for Mining, Geology and Raw Materials Brandenburg, Cottbus
The state office is actively involved in protecting the environment, research and managing the old mining sites in the region. Adapting the past and shaping the future – this philosophy is reflected in the newly built passive house with a geothermal power plant.
The design of the new two-storey extension of the State Office for Mining, Geology and Raw Materials(LBGR) located right next to the historic main building is as forward-looking and innovative as the office’s research. In wonderful contrast to the existing buildings, the material-mix consisting of rusty steel cladding and exposed concrete creates a striking combination façade. The exposed concrete on the ground floor area gets its dynamic look from the diagonally installed panel structure. In order to best protect the exposed concrete against dirt, stains and pollution, it is impregnated with the permanent surface and graffiti protection system faceal Oleo HD.
